A few weeks ago we wrote about a remote access program that sat on a customer's computer for over a year without him knowing. Since then, we've made that kind of check automatic. Every computer with our monitoring tool installed now gets a weekly security sweep that looks for one thing: software that lets someone else control the computer from somewhere else.

We've had some difficult conversations with clients lately. Several have come to us after the loss of a spouse, unsure where to begin with the accounts and devices their loved one always took care of. Most have told us some version of the same thing: "He handled all of that. I don't even know where to start." They couldn't get into his email. They didn't know the passcode to his phone. The bank kept sending security codes to a number they couldn't answer. On top of everything else they were dealing with, they were locked out of their own household. None of this takes a lawyer or a tech degree to prevent. It takes one sheet of paper and about 30 minutes at the kitchen table.
